2008's Wanted is perfect cheesy action film. Just as nonsensical as it is fun.
Main Post:
The plot of Wanted is pretty nuts. A normal everyday guy finds out that he has special bullet bending abilities and is critical to the fate of the world. A fate that is controlled by a loom interpretated by a corrupt organization.
Mix in a couple of double crosses, murder montages, and a hell of a lot of bullet bending, and you got one of the wildest movies of the 2000s.
It serves as the less defined proto-Kingsmen. bloodier and messier.
Does it make any sense. Nope. Is it fun. Yes
Top Comment: Agreed. As I understand, a far departure from the comic, but fun nonetheless. Also the first time I remember McAvoy as an action star, which obviously became a big deal later on. Also also, one of the most satisfying latter-day scenes to watch him smack Chris Pratt with that keyboard.
What does r/movies think of Wanted (2008)
Main Post:
I don't heat a lot of this movie and realize that the ones who do talk aren't fond due to being completely different from the graphic novel. Really, I enjoy it, like a lot lol. I wish there would be a sequel.
SPOILERS The ending action scene where James McAvoy raids the Fraternity's Headquarters is badass.
Top Comment: One of my favorite go-to full-blown action movies for sure. McAvoy is great in switching from a pathetic cubicle worker to a one-man-army badass and the movie had some of the most thrilling action scenes as far as Hollywood goes. The ending shot with SPOILER! Morgan Freeman getting shot in the head and then seeing the bullet travel in reverse, passing through stuff Weasly hated, back into his gun while he narrates was badass. The moment when he locks the gun, stares at the camera and casually breaks the fourth wall by asking us "What the fuck have you done lately?" was perfectly executed. Great movie!
Wanted (2008) is a horrible movie whose main theme seems to be "this movie sucked, but your life sucks more"
Main Post:
Well it did for the 1hr 50mins I spent watching it.
According to Wikepedia and a quick google search it got generally favourable reviews. Im in a state of despair..
How the hell did it get even a few decent actors attached? Is the base material decent? How did it make so much money? So many questions im not sure i want the answers to..
Top Comment: It’s entertaining, that’s all it needs to be.
Wanted 2008
Main Post:
Extremely underrated movie. It could have been a great franchise or TV series
Top Comment: This movie made 342 million at the box office on a 72 million budget (a box office success), and was nominated for two academy awards, while holding a positive critic score. Not underrated by any means.
Wanted is a rare example where the movie is better than the book.
Main Post:
So just finished reading the book and I'll I can say is "that was disappointing". I know I'll probably catch a lot of flak for this but the movie producers made the right choice by making major changes to the story and characters. The movie definitely had some problems but the story was at least somewhat entertaining and there were decent actors playing the roles. However the book is just terrible from start to finish. Sorry lol
Top Comment: I couldn't disagree more, and I don't even like the comic. To me the comic is a shining example of ugly, mean spirited, embarassingly cringey edgelord shit. But at least it goes hard, and had a cool idea at the center of it, namely "what if all the supervillains joined together, defeated all the superheroes and secretly ran the world". The movie doesn't even have that. Instead it's just some lame assassin society or whatever. I guess I would rather have something that is crazy, original and bad than mediocre and lame.
[Spoiler] Wanted (2008) might have the worst dialogue of any film, ever.
Main Post:
The first time I saw it I was around 18 years old and loved it. Years later I watched it again and realized how god-awful the writing was. I hope the screenwriters got absolutely lambasted for how badly they butchered this.
I'm a fan of everyone in themovie - McAvoy, Jolie, Freeman, and so on.
This movie though, and it's mainly centered around Wesley's character, has the worst dialogue I've ever heard in a film that takes itself seriously. It's like listening to "Mother, you're alive" "Too bad.. YOU.. will die.." for an hour and a half on repeat.
I liked the premise though and I really wanted to like the film when I watched it a second time. A loser turned assassin and the action scenes were fantastic. But holy shit, whoever wrote the script for this movie really shit the bed. Wesley switches from scared of the fraternity members to joking with them to scared again to joking to whatever else, in the blink of an eye. There's no consistency whatsoever in his character or in any part of the movie.
This movie has no idea what it's doing or which direction it's going in. Every line spoken feels so forced, so fraudulent - as if the writers were pulling an all-nighter trying to get the script done the day before it's due.
Oh and a sidenote: If 'Cross' wanted to 'separate' Wesley from the fraternity, he could have just yelled, from a distance, "Hey Wesley, I'm your dad." at the very beginning, instead of whatever the hell this movie was trying to do.
I've seen some really shitty writing, but this one is in a league of it's own.
Top Comment: Hahaha! What a story, Mark!
Opinions on Wanted (2008)
Main Post:
Finished watching Wanted a couple of minutes ago, and holy shit that movie was so over the top, it was bloody amazing! Loved the ending and the delivery of "What the fuck have you done lately?" Yeah, it HEAVILY strayed from the plot of the graphic novels, but I still found it incredibly enjoyable because of the sheer ridiculousness. Great performance from Chris Pratt with the "He's the man." thing. What did you people think about it?
Top Comment: The way Morgan Freeman says "Shoot this motherfucker" has always been my favorite part.
Despite being completely unrealistic, "Wanted" still is one of the greatest action movies I have ever seen.

this is the scene I remember the most when someone mentions this movie, a young Chris Pratt getting slammed by a keyboard and the letters that fly out towards the screen F U C K Y O and then his tooth makes the U. Great stuff!!
